Press Ready or "Hi Res-Optimized" PDF

Creating a Hi Res Press Ready PDF is the key to a professional looking project.

The following check list is a quick overview of the steps our production staff take when creating great looking PDF documents for commercial printing.

So how do I make a Hi Res Press Ready PDF?

1. Create a postscript file (.ps) using a PostScript printer driver.
2. Include registration marks and set the bleed to 0.125in.
The registration marks should also be offset by 0.125in (9pt).
3. When printing from your Page Layout Program, specify a printer driver that will create a postscript file. When including registration marks the paper width and height should be set to 1inch more than the page size. For example an 8.5 x 11 document would have a paper size of 9.5in x 12in.
4. Convert the postscript file (.ps) to PDF in Acrobat Distiller.
5. Download our Distiller settings and import into Acrobat Distiller by launching Distiller>Settings>Add Adobe PDF Settings.
6. If you decide to manually alter Distiller's PDF settings, please keep in mind the following:
All color and Greyscale images need to be be Bicubic Downsampling and 300 pixels per inch.
Monochome images should be 1200 pixels per inch. All fonts (including Subset) should be embedded. Avoid any Color Management Settings.

Use our Adobe Acrobat Distiller PDF Settings

*You must have Acrobat Distiller installed on your computer to import settings
